Wife: Gertrude Fowler Bouton (1867 - 1918).
Children: Kendrick Fowler Bouton (1899 - 1920).

In 1899, James was living in Jefferson County, in the town of Perry, Kansas. His business was that of a Liveryman. Fine rigs was his specialty.
