Death: Apr. 16, 1906

Wife: Mary U. Ott  Offerle (1834 - 1895).

Authors note.  He may had another wife name Elizabeth, married about 1889

Children: Abner Offerle (1855 - 1930), Oscar Offerle (1864 - 1955).

Burial: Evergreen Cemetery, Offerle, Ford County, Kansas.

Authors note.  Offerle cemetery is one mile north-west of Offerle and is in Ford county.

Lawrence Offerle came to Edwards county and settled in Trenton township in section7. He was a Merchant, Farmer and Stock Raiser.  He was one of the earliest settlers in Edwards county and was the founder of Offerle, Kansas.

During the late 1870's, Philip Ott, Lawrence Offerle and John Offerle purchased Section 7 from the railroad company, and each of them deeded 40 acres of each quarter section to the Offerle Town Company. The town site was platted on December 4, 1877.

 

Offerle post office opened May 26, 1876 and was still running in 1961, John E. Edwards was first post master.

Offerle, a village in Edwards county, is located in Trenton township on the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe R. R., 9 miles west of Kinsley, the county seat. It has a number of general stores, a mill, a grain elevator, a creamery, telegraph and express offices, and a money order post office with one rural route. The population according to the census of 1910 was 200.
