La Mont Kansas

La Mont Kansas.

Osage County.
Junction Township map, 1879.

On the county map you can find La Mont in township 16-south and range 16-east.  On the township map you can find La Mont in section 23.

La Mont Post Office.

La Mont post office open January 7, 1871 and ran to January 31, 1887, first post master was Warner W. Morris, post office moved to Vassar.  Vassar post office opened J anuary 31, 1887 and was still running upto 1961.

Authors note.  When the railroad came through Junction township it passed throught section 22, and 23.  Now its my belief that not only did La Mont move to Vassar but changed its name to Vassar.  My reasoning is this before 1886, Vassar is not shown on the county map, but La Mont was, however after 1887, when La Mont post office moved La Mont is not shown on the county map. La Mont was in section 23, the post office was mover about a mile west to section  22 the site of Vassar.
