Authors note. In 1879 Dragoon post office is listed in section 8, but in 1899 we find it listed in section 9. I couldn't find any record on why the move if it moved at all it may be because of the township lines just cahaned over the years.

Dragoon Post Office.
Dragoon post office open June 5, 1873 and ran to December 31, 1900, John Rehrig was first postmaster.
Authors Note. Dragoon Post Office or the town of Dragoon, on all the county atlases it is only known as a post office. However there was a plat drawn for the town of Dragoon in 1899, but I found no record that the town was ever laid-out or caming into being.

In the Patron's Directory of 1879, only one person was listed, and that was William Gregory, Farmer and stock Raiser, he was from Greene County Pennsylvania, he had came to the county in 1870.

In 1883, John Banning was listed as using Dragoon as his P. O. address, his information is listed below.
HON. JOHN BANNING, farmer, Section 8, P. O., Dragoon, was
born in McDonough County, Ill., Feb., 15, 1838, son of Ephraim and Mary Potter
Banning, where he grew up on a farm, and was educated in the common schools. He
came to the State in 1855 and settled in Big Springs, where he was an active
Free-State man, attending the conventions from the first one held in the place
to the last. In 1869 he purchased a fine tract of land containing 630 acres in
Fairfax Township, which he has improved. He built his present residence in 1876
at a cost of $1,400, and in 1880, a fine barn costing $1,700. During the war he
served in the militia, and had a hand in the battle with Sterling Price on the
Blue. He has been honored by the people as County Commissioner from 1871 to
1876, and Probate Judge one term. While in Big Springs he was a merchant and
postmaster. He was united in marriage in Shawnee County, Kan., September 7,
1862, to Miss Hettie J., daughter of I. N. Roberts, Esq. They have eight
children - Josephine P., Ephraim N., May M., Ella Bell., John W., Hettie M.,
William., and Thomas
